The most commonly practiced yoga in the West is Hatha yoga. Hatha yoga is 5000 years old. It is non-competitive and it teaches us self-discipline and self-awareness.
Benefits of regular yoga practice are that it
- promotes physical and mental health and well being
- strengthens and lengthens muscles
- increases flexibility
- improves posture
- supports the body's systems (such as endocrine, immune, respiratory and circulatory)
- improves digestion and elimination
- increases the capacity of the lungs
- focuses the mind in the present, offering a relief from every day stresses and strains
- removes the obstacles that may prevent a good night's sleep.

Me and yoga
I have been practicing yoga for over 12 years, I initially started as I was working in a highly stressful job in London and was searching for relaxation and a way to escape the daily grind. Now it has become my way of life.
I am a qualified British School of Yoga Hatha Yoga Teacher - BSYA. I have been a member of the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) since 2005 and have completed a BWY Foundation Course with them.
I have completed specialist pregnancy yoga training through Yogacampus with the UK's leading expert, Uma Dinsmore Tuli www.yogacampus.com
I am listed with the Independent Yoga Network as a Yoga Registered Teacher (YRT) www.independentyoganetwork.org
I am listed as a Yoga Teacher with the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPS)www.exerciseregister.org
I am a registered Hatha and pregnancy yoga teacher, based in Worcester Park, Surrey, with Yoga Pages www.yogapages.co.uk This a useful place to get more information about yoga related issues.
I hold valid first aid certificates for adults and children.
I am influenced by many yoga styles and regularly attend classes in Astanga, Hatha and Iyengar traditions which I find keeps my practice fresh by sharing ideas with my fellow teachers and students. I also regularly attend yoga workshops.
I feel I am privileged to have discovered yoga and to be able to share it as wonderful gift with my students and my teaching friends.
